The government upped the overall expenditure to Rs 778 crore from Rs 500 crore and stated on Friday that the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme would be extended by two months, until September 30. The Ministry of Heavy Industries introduced the program in March of this year with the goal of increasing the nation’s use of electric cars (EVs).

Originally scheduled to operate from April 1, 2024, until July 31, 2024, the EMPS system had a Amount spent in total: Rs 500 crore.

The program will now run until September 30, 2024, an additional two months has been added. The scheme’s budget has also been increased to Rs 778 crore, according to an official announcement.

The program is to support the expansion of the nation’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing industry and further the government’s green efforts.

Electric two- and three-wheel vehicles, including registered e-rickshaws and e-carts, as well as the L5 category, are among the qualifying EV categories under the system.

The programme will primarily apply to e-2W and e-3Ws registered for commercial use, with a focus on offering accessible and eco-friendly public transit options for the general public. Furthermore, registered e-2W that is individually or corporately owned will be eligible under the plan in addition to commercial use.

The country’s ecosystem for the production of electric vehicles (EVs) is anticipated to get stronger thanks to the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme (EMPS) – 2024.
