With the announcement that over half of the civil construction on the three priority routes has been completed, officials have confirmed that the fourth phase expansion of Delhi Metro is well underway. Commencing in December 2019, the construction project had considerable setbacks from 2020 to 2022 as a result of the Covid epidemic and difficulties securing authorization for tree clearance.

The new 65-kilometer network is expected to be operational by 2026, and work on it is moving along quickly, according to a June 30 report from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Officials from DMRC are hopeful that all three priority routes will be operational by this deadline.

Tunneling Work: ongoing on a number of corridors, including Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (Magenta Line) and Aerocity-Tughlakabad (Golden Line).
Upcoming Milestones:
- The Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension Phase 4 portion is almost finished and scheduled to open in August.
- It is anticipated that the Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor would open in 2019.
- By 2026, the remaining key corridor sections are expected to open in stages.
Difficulties and Attempts:
The project is being actively followed in spite of the obstacles caused by Covid and the delays in obtaining the required approvals. To speed up the process, high-level oversight and daily site visits are in place. While some property purchase and tree-cutting permits are still waiting, attempts are being made to safe ones are still running strong.
Other Corridors: Two more corridors under Phase 4 have been approved recently: Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar and Inderlok-Indraprastha. Civil improvements on these corridors are presently being planned and put out to bid.
