In the most recent fiscal year, domestic automakers Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors were granted a record number of patent permissions for a variety of innovative products and processes.

1,185 patents related to the auto major have been granted thus far, spanning several regions.
The company has 193 applications for patent clearance as of March 31, 2024. It has so far submitted 2,212 patent applications in total.
A wide range of topics are covered by M&M’s patents, including advanced engineering, electric tractors, manufacturing processes, electronics, powertrain (ICE & EV), and vehicle mechanical systems.
In the most recent fiscal year, Tata Motors was granted 333 patents, its greatest number to date. This brought the company’s total number of issued patents to over 850.
FY24
In FY24, the company filed the most patents (222) and design applications (117), both records.
Key automotive megatrends like connection, electrification, sustainability, and safety are addressed in a wide range of product and process innovations filed. (CESS).
The vehicle systems, including the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and emission control, are also covered by the patents.
