Tata Motors has been recognized for its outstanding contribution to vehicle safety with the Global NCAP Safer Choice Award, given to the Tata Safari and Harrier vehicles. This prestigious award, given by Global NCAP, is only given to automakers who consistently uphold the strictest safety regulations for vehicles marketed in India. Global NCAP gave the Tata Safari and Harrier a five-star grade for adults and children last year attaining the highest ratings in the #SaferCarsForIndia initiative for occupant protection.

Tata Motors has since conducted additional Safer Choice compliance testing on the Safari and Harrier. The exacting performance and volume requirements for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), speed assistance, and Blind Spot Detection (BSD) systems have been satisfactorily fulfilled by both models.

Introduced in 2018 and most recently updated in August 2024, Global NCAP’s Safer Choice Award is given to automobile models that satisfy a number of demanding requirements:

  • Five-star Global NCAP certification for the safety of adult occupants.
  • five-star Global NCAP rating for the safety of small passengers.
  • deployment of a speed assistance system meeting all the requirements set forth by Global NCAP with a perfect score.
  • AEB (car-to-car and vulnerable road user) availability that satisfies UN performance requirements.
  • Offering BSD as an independent option, fulfilling the performance standards set by Global NCAP.

Tata Motors’ commitment to vehicle safety has been commended by David Ward, President of the Towards Zero Foundation, who also noted the company’s noteworthy contribution to enhancing protection for vulnerable road users and vehicle occupants. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited Vice President and Chief Product Officer Mohan Savarkar expressed gratitude for the honor and reiterated the company’s dedication to innovation and safety. He underlined that Tata Motors has now achieved a five-star certification for its whole SUV series, thereby creating a new standard for the Indian auto sector and putting Indian car purchasers’ safety first.
