Toyota Motor President Sato Koji was summoned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on Wednesday to receive the correction order. The controversy began in June when it was uncovered that Toyota had falsified performance test data for seven models to secure necessary certification for mass production. This led to the suspension of shipments for three models already in production.

An internal investigation by Toyota in early July reported no further wrongdoing beyond the initial seven models, as per Xinhua news agency. However, a comprehensive investigation by the ministry, including an onsite inspection of Toyota’s headquarters, revealed additional malpractice involving seven more models.

The corrective order requires Toyota to develop and implement fundamental measures within a month to prevent future incidents. Additionally, Toyota must provide quarterly progress reports to the ministry.

This is the fourth corrective order issued by the ministry under the amended Road Transport Vehicle Act of 2019, and it is the first time Toyota has received such an order.
